Fall in the Rockies
Members Mia and Lalu live in Yellowstone National Park. Lately they've had some difficulties with the resident elk population, which is in rut. This presents a problem when the dogs need to go outside, as the animals tend to be a little "testy".
Lalu writes: "We could not take the dogs out that day and the dogs had started to whine and cry. All the elks were lying spread out around the house, with the bull elk stomping about and our house does not have a back door! I sneaked out quick and turned on the sprinkler in the yard and as the elks moved away I got a moment to pick up the dogs and put them in the car and take them uphill to do their dos. And when I returned I found the elks were enjoying the cool shower near the sprinkler and drinking out of it. :) then I had to find an opportunity to turn the sprinkler off and it was late evening before they decided to move on to the next plot."

Thanks!
Thank you for all the work that you did to make the trial a success. The fact that everyone was there and pitched in, competing or not, was wonderful. As usual, the food was fantastic and no one could ever say that we went hungry. And I think I can speak for Warren and Pete that having folks there to cheer on the competitors is what this sport is all about; it does matter to have everyone’s support and encouragement. I am also under the impression that our guests Al, Craig and Kelly had a good time too.
So thanks again to everyone for sticking with this crazy sport and our sometimes hard to understand passion/obsession/habit/whatever you want to call it of dog training. Sometimes I get discouraged because of all of the $%@$# politics that’s out there in the organizations and it gets depressing. But events like ours this weekend is what really matters! We have a darn good group of people.

New Titles
Lexi and Warren got a 265=95/90/80p with Al Govednik here at home this weekend, earning their IPO2. Special congrats to Peter DeKok & Vise for their first SChH 1! And congratulations to Anne and Bekqa for their FH1. It's always a treat to watch Bekqa contain himself and focus so intensely while tracking.
Thanks to our club members for all their hard work putting on a very smooth trial, …and to our friend & helper Craig Lewis & his delightful spouse & training partner Kelley for all their time & travel. Wish we had had more dogs for you to work, Craig! |

Big Sky Trial
Big Sky Working Dogs (formerly Big Sky Schutzhund Club) is pleased to announce our fall trial Sept. 17 and 18, 2011, with USCA Al Govednik. The schedule for the trial is to do “stadium” work on Saturday afternoon and evening, and tracking Sunday morning, as we have a very short window of Al’s time.
Tracking will be on plowed agricultural soil, with practice tracking on nearly identical conditions available on request.
Field layout is permanent blinds with #1 to the left.
Entry fees will be $75 for SchH/IPO and/or FH titles, $60 for BH and $35 each for TR/OB. We are forced to add an additional charge of $15 per entry to handlers who are not members of USCA, but all breeds and handlers from all member organizations within AWDF are welcome. Entry fees include dinner at the clubhouse at the training field – a traditional “potluck” by the members of BSWD.
Camping is available on site by prior arrangement, no hookups, but shower available. Hotels available within 5 minutes of field.

Yours in the Sport,
